motorcycles Royal Enfield
I bought this bike after really wanting an Enfield for over 20 years. I bought it locally from an elderly gent who was an enthusiast with about 4 other older Enfield s. The bike had been converted to an Amal carburettor and has a Hitchcock's Performance kit. Whilst the bike rode well on test it had a habit of stalling in traffic and being difficult to start from hot. My nearest Enfield dealer MOT'd the bike last October after I replaced the rear tyre and tube, solenoid and fitted a new British made clutch cable. Over the winter I rebuilt the Amal carb, but found despite sorting out the usual air leaks and problems with the float, the bike did not run better, (just like my first Amal carbed BSA). I bought a new Electra from the dealer and considered converting this one to Diesel in a fit of despondency about the Amal carb. The dealer took it in and retro-fitted the old carb and new air cleaner. The bike now runs very well and starts from first or second kick whether hot or cold. If I had known it would run this well then I probably would not have bought a new one! I have ridden the bike around 100 miles since the new carb was fitted and it has been 100% reliable and a pleasure to ride. These Enfields were the last to be made in India before they went to unit construction and has a real old British bike feel which the newer ones lack. The mileage is likely to rise a little before the end of the auction as I am using it now the sun is shining. My new one must be run in at 50mph ...
