JAMES COMET RIGID 1950 BARN FIND PROJECT RESTORE SPARES OR REPAIR
In my opinion the early post-war James Comets are the most attractive small capacity machines ever to be made in England. The quality is outstanding for a utility machine. These bikes ooze character! This two-speed machine dates from 1950 according to the vin chassis number. Although restoration has been started/abandoned, it is mostly complete. Obvious missing parts are, silencer, saddle and toolbox. I think a rack was optional on these but this is not present. However to make up for missing parts there are a number of duplicate engine spares in the boxes which will go with the bike. Condition is very solid with very little rust. No dents or damage to frame or tinware, with the exception of a funny home-welded area where the tank embellishment is fitted - see picture. Amazingly this bike still retains its original lights, front and rear. The 98cc Villiers 1F engine is complete and turns over freely. Because there are no documents with the bike, I will give a full receipt with the frame number to the new lucky owner. There is currently a fully restored James on Ebay should you wish to see a complete example of this machine. The only deviation from standard is that the wheel rims are chrome-plated and not painted, which hardly detracts from the value of their lovely little bike. Buyer collects or arrange your own courier. No buy-it now. No reserve!
