Ariel 500cc Alloy Barrel and Head Factory Modified Through Bolted Engine Classic

Ariel 500cc all alloy engine, big carb, supposedly very high compression, 1958 frame number CAPR10070, the engine is earlier possibly 1952, it has a four digit number on it but, it seems not to mean anything to anyone, it has, through bolted, head, barrel, and crank case, I'm told by the club that this was an attempt by the factory to stop the barrels shearing off above the mouth of the crank case, which I'm told they did when they 'let go' in a big way, it has a 21" front wheel and a 19" rear wheel, I don't know anything about its history, I have tried to find out about the engine, but, nobody will commit to what it is without 'pulling it to bits', it certainly looks like a competition unit to me, but, you must decide, what it is and if it's a bike for you. ask any questions or come to view. The tank is an Ariel one but, it has been fitted with Royal Enfield badge strips, the old boy was a bit eccentric he liked to think that people...
