SUZUKI GN400 THAT THINKS ITS AN AJS 7R, REPLICA TO PARADE OR TRACK DAY
This is a 1981 Suzuki GN400 which I have modified to make it look like an AJS 7R.It was built for fun and to parade. I really like the look of the 7R but I can't afford the price of a real one ! It is a standard engine with frame bits changed to give it the 7R look. The tank is a faithfull copy but is a dummy which covers a smaller lawnmower tank, the newly covered seat and front number plate are the same as used on a genuine 7R. The rear wheel is from a YZ250 Yamaha crosser and the front wheel is a 200mm twin leading shoe brake from a T500 Suzuki. Just rebuilt with new spokes, bearings and brake shoes. There is no V5 but I have a dating letter and as it is likely to have been registered in the past should not prove too much hassle to get one if anyone wanted to put it back on the road. I did get an insurance quote, also needed for the V55/5 process so I can give the name of the insurers. There is another pair of wheels which go with it. These have conical hubs if a more authentic look was desired. The front is a rear wheel from a Maico crosser and the rear is from a Montesa trials bike. The rear has a new sprocket. The front has a twin leading shoe brake but will need a little modification to the hub for it to fit. It is also wider than the forks so also included is a set of wider yokes. The bike goes very well and is great fun to ride see the picture taken of me at the parade at the Bob MacIntyre memorial trophy races at East Fortune last year. I have several other projects...
