1949 BSA Bantam D1 rigid frame 175 cc classic motorcycle. Restoration project
Classic 1949 BSA Bantam D1 rigid frame with single cylinder 175 cc engine fitted. PLUS an incomplete, dismantled engine. A great restoration project! VEHICLE HISTORY:First registered on 16th November 1949.My father purchased in the 1970s.The previous owner changed the engine to a 175 cc.It was my first motorcycle! I passed my test on it. I was only person in Sixth Form riding a classic British bike! I used it in 1977 and 1978, then I moved onto a 1959 DKW RT175 which had rear suspension... luxury! It was then parked in the garage and has been there ever since!VEHICLE CONDITION:Currently a non-runner, but it probably won't take much to get it running? The engine kicks over easily. It clicks through the gears. The clutch and brakes seem to work okay.No battery so I can't test the electrics.Tyres inflated. My mother covered the seat in 1977. It has deteriorated and split.I built and fitted the rear carrier in metal work class at school!I also fitted the cheapo indicators and handpainted it!The odometer shows only 2,348, but I no idea if this is correct?ADDITIONAL PARTS:Included is an INCOMPLETE, dismantled, corroded engine and a few other bits - see photo.I can't find the engine number, but the part number on the con-rod is 90-253 which according to my research is 125 cc D1 1947-1953? DOCUMENTS:Old style V5 Last MOT certificate (expired 11th November 1978)BSA Instruction Manual Model D1 125 ccREGISTRATION:It hasn't taxed since 1978 and I only have an old style V5, so it is no longer ...
